Staying with my mum

Did anyone had to stay with their parents or parent after a long time living away from them? It happened to me twice. Once when I run away from my ex-boyfriend, before I met my hubby and second time this year. The first time it was for a year, but I was alone and the only person who had to deal with that was me. Second time it was us. My whole family! Even though my hubby was with us only for a few days, but then he was on the other end of phone line.

One months with two kids without their daddy and with their grandma was challenging.

Because of my dad's situation (he was very sick and staying in a hospital) it was even worse than usual. My mum is difficult to deal with and with the amount of stress she had while we were there, it was really difficult.

I was lucky to meet with my best friend who has a little boy nearly the same age as Alex and who is currently expecting a second child. She helped me a lot as I was stressed because of all this too. We met quite often so our kids could play etc. That was making the whole time there easier.

If you live alone and maybe even far away, you have your own life, your view at life, your way of parenting if you have kids, even your style how do you cook. If you have to adjust everything because of new place it's difficult, but if there are other people to adjust to, it's certainly nerve wrecking.

I don't like when somebody is talking to me like I am not responsible, unable to look after myself or my kids and I really hate when somebody who doesn't even look after himself is trying to push me where I don't want to go with anything that is happening.

Funny thing was that my mum told me to behave like I'm home, but as soon as I did something I would in my home and she didn't like it, she told me that I am only visiting there and have to behave as she wants and do what she says. REALLY????!!!!

Well, I know she doesn't think she's too pushy, but she has to have her way every time. She knows better and even if you did exactly what she wanted, you did it wrong, but it's still my mum and I love her.

I don't want to rant too much so I'm done for now.

I spent one month at my parents house with a few breaks of going to my sisters. A week with one and a few days with another during this period. I have to thank them too and to thank my mum as well, because now I know what I want for my family and I will stand behind every decision I make! No bends for anyone, I have my own mind and I'm really happy that my hubby supports me and is on same page with me.

We know what we want for our kids and for us and I will describe it later. Some situations in your life will show you and help you decide what your priorities are.

Going to Slovakia / Use of public transport

Finally both angels are asleep, so I have a little time to write another post. I just finished my lunch, which I didn't need to shovel into myself as quickly as possible.

It's time to relax a little bit.

Just before we left for Slovakia we had to use a bus service from my sister's town to my home town.

We chose a bus with easy access and a large space for wheelchair or buggy as we had our little tank. Currently with both sport seats.

The bus arrived with 3 minutes delay. We were first in line, so I went in to check with the driver if it's OK to get in with the buggy. After a short conversation with this arrogant man I was so angry that I nearly told him to go for a very long walk to a very dark place. His attitude was unacceptable for a public service and I wasn't the only one who had to deal with that. In the middle of our 20 minute journey in this bus another mum with two kids, one in buggy came in and had to listen to the drivers angry language as well. I just hopped we will have better experience with the train journey that followed the next day.

In the evening I wanted to book a taxi for following morning. The gentleman on the other side of the phone asked me to call in the morning and so I did. He said they will come in 10-15 minutes. I took kids on the buggy through the city, it took me 20 minutes to reach the train station. It's only 6 minutes in a car max, but I was there 5 minutes before my hubby and bags as the taxi driver had 20 minutes delay. I was glad we left the house 40 minutes before the train departure.

We went to the train, which had a wheelchair access to every waggon. It was great, plenty of space for buggy, bags and us. The guy who checked our ticket gave Alex a baby ticket with pictures so she could have her own. Pity we had to change to different train after a while. When we were buying the tickets we asked about the buggy and extra luggage as we had a big bag, two small ones and before the change we collected our car seats. The lady at the cashpoint told us to check with the person responsible to check the tickets in the train.

Sooooo, when the second train, we were supposed to take, arrive, I was looking for this person. A young lady was standing the the front of the train so I run over there with Alex in my arms and pulling the large bag behind to check where should we go. She was standing there, didn't even make one step towards me. I asked her where to go and she looked at me like she saw an alien. With bored and angry voice she told be to run back to the end of the train and get in there. So I did.

Why was I so lucky to meet such people?

Luckily there was a young boy who helped my hubby with the buggy. BTW there was no wheelchair access and about 4 steep steps to the train, very narrow doors and limited space for everything. We had to fold the buggy, which takes a little time, to get it in and put it next to bicycles and other stuff.
While we were sitting in the train my hubby had to go to that place at least 5 times to move the buggy for the cyclist etc. Kids fell asleep in the middle of our way to Slovakia. The whole trip took about 4 hours.

I'm really glad it's over and we don't need to repeat that again.

I have to say it's really difficult to travel with two small kids without a car.

To be honest, I'm happy that my hubby arrived a few days before this big trip to help, I wouldn't be able to manage all the luggage, car seats, buggy and kids alone, maybe when they are bigger, much BIGGER :)

Something about Alex

Alex is 20 months old.

She loves being outside, it's sooo dificult to get her back to house in this lovely weather. She's starting to run around. We took her for a longer walk this morning and she managed really well.

She's able to put wellies on by herself. I'm just waiting for her to start dress herself alone, but she's not interested in it. She loves running out naked, I'm glad we have big garden and nearly no neighbours, so she can do whatever she wants.

Alex loves all animals, she's searching for spiders everyday. Even though a vosp pinched her, she's not afraid of any insect. That's great. She probably won't have same fobia as I use to have.

Our big girl is now also sleeping in her own big bed. The transition was OK due to the fact she had to sleep with me on a double beds while visiting my sisters.

I took her one day horse riding. Well I was sitting on the horse and she was watching me walking around a field and she wanted up as well. She absolutely loved it. She didn't want to get down. Poor girl who owned the horse was walking with us for 10 minutes maybe more. Alex was chearing up, laughing, it was brilliant. So the next time when we discovered horse riding for kids (walking) we paid for a few rounds and daddy walked beside her and held her leg so she wouldn't slip. She cried again when she had to go down.

Alex also loves the summer fruit. She can have whatever she likes from the garden. Strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrent, gooseberries, cherries etc. In this hot weather she doesn't want to eat much but she eats every few minutes a little bit. It is much easier because she has nearly all teeth now and is able to eat everything.

Her hair is getting fair and she has a lovely tan eventhough I put a sunscreen on her everyday and it's factor 50.

Before our holidays she didn't want to go to a bath. Now it's really difficult to get her out of our small swimming pool or evrn baby bath in the evening.

The only problem I have now is her addiction to me. It might be her age or the fact we are together all the time or maybe she wants me for herself after her brother joined our family, but she is constantly calling me while outside.

We must try to get away for a few hours more often or at least I should go to have some me time.

Some news about Jessie

Jessie is 4 months old already. The time flies.

He loves his tummy time. His neck muscles are really strong. He's even trying to crawl a little. Was able to move on a bed a little bit. He is sometimes turning to his side as well, but wasn't able to roll over yet.

He's such a good boy. If he's not teething he's full of smiles, feeds well and sleeps great.

He's up only once or twice a night, if I give him soother, he goes back to sleep and feeds around 6am. So it's around 9 hours night sleep as we are aiming for bedtime around 8-9pm.

We already tried a bit of baby rice, he didn't spit it out much, so I presume he likes it. I have a plenty of milk for him, so there is no need to push it too much with the solids, but I want him to get use to new textures and possible tastes.

It's summer time, we'll have a lot of healthy vegetables, home grown, so I would like to use this opportunity.

We went even swimming with him and we are trying to get him use to water in our garden swimming pool. It's a small one, but there is enough water for him and Alex. Even for me ;)

Jessie is growing really fast. He's strong boy. I'm waiting to go for development check up with him. I believe all is well, but it's always nice to hear professional opinion. We need to get his vaccines done as well, but that has time.

He's very alert and loves to look at pictures, toys and books. He's reaching for everything what is close.

After the morning feed he usually wants to talk to me, he's smiling, singing etc, which is not too good as he might wake Alex, so I take him to bed and try to calm him down and get him back to sleep.
Some mornings are luckier than others. It's 50-50 chance he falls asleep after a few minutes.

Funny thing is that if I turn my back to him, he reaches to me and starts poking me with his fist or pulling my hair, but he's always gentle.

I want him to be strong and crawl already as it's difficult to have one baby on a blanket outside and the other running around the house. I hope he will follow us around when he'll be able, but I'm sure he might start running to the other direction to keep me even busier. We'll see ;)

Our journey with two kids

Well, summer is a busy time of the year. We are currently on holidays back home. Nearly two months now. I had very limited access to internet and had a lot of work to do until now. So I'll try to catch up on the important events that happened to us.

The journey was interesting. Going on a plane with two kids under two is not easy. We were lucky to have double buggy, so the waiting time before the flight was easier due to easy transport of luggage and kids. I had to go with my hubby, because our flight tickets were linked together. Every baby under two years must be accompanied with an adult as they should sit on adults lap.

Even though every other person complains about the company we were flying with, we were happy with the service. As we walked into the plane the flight attendant looked at us and said they will change our seats as we would need to walk to the back and there was a free space at the front, closer to the toilet with baby changing table.

As the door of the plane were closed, she came to us again and said that the seats next to ours, the right hand side of the plane is empty as well and we can go there, so we'll have whole row, 6 seats for 4 of us and after the seat belt sign is switched off we can put our kids to sleep over more seats.

That was great as Jessie wanted to sleep and had plenty of space, so did the rest of us.

Alex was OK, she wanted to explore everything. Unfortunately there was a family with another baby girl, which was crying all the time. She was very laud. Alex didn't mind and didn't even react to it until the end of the flight.

Due to the pressure changes she probably had earache and so she started to cry as well. The more the other girl was crying the more Alex wanted too.

It was only 10 minutes of Alex's crying spell.

When we left the plane, our buggy wasn't waiting for us there, so we had to wait for a few minutes until the other people left. That wasn't a problem, but most of the people passing us by the gate, looked at us with question in their eyes and some of the even commented on the screaming in the plane. It wasn't our Alex who was screaming all the time, it was the other little girl and she wasn't happy by the bags either.

I felt angry a little bit, because our Alex was crying 10 minutes from 2.5hr long flight.

We took a car and went to my parents house. Over 3 hours in a car were difficult. Jessie was fine, I fed him and he slept, and when we had a break, I fed him again, changed his nappy and Alex's as well. She wasn't that cooperative. She was bored and she towards the end she wanted to get out of the car. No toy was good enough for her. But we managed it well by the end.

Our holidays started a month earlier, due to unexpected family circumstances. Unfortunately my dad is in a hospital and so we had to come as soon as we heard. We had to cancel our other flight tickets and as for refund. It was a nice surprise when we received an email after 5 weeks saying we'll get our money back.

And so I stayed with our kids with my mum and daddy went back home....
